As a Pakistani, I would think it is practically impossible to not know about the Pakistan Super League, the international cricket tournament held every year. With the fourth edition of the event just around the corner, cricket fans in Pakistan are eager to know which players are included in their favorite teams and so in timely fashion, the PSL 2019 Draft has come up.

This official tweet can help you get your hopes high!

For those of you who aren’t aware, the PSL 2019 Draft decides which cricketers will be participating from which teams. However, before we move forward it is important to know that the sixth team which participated last year for the first time, led by the experienced Shoaib Malik, the Multan Sultans, isn’t part of the PSL due to the owner’s inability to pay the fees to the PCB. Fear not though, the sixth team will still be part of the tournament, but the owners and name are yet to be found.

Now as we move forward, here is some background to help you understand the PSL 2019 Draft much better. The PCB has divided all the players who have been recruited to be part of the PSL into six categories with the major difference between them being the fees that the players will collect which is based on the experience of the players.

Platinum Category: $570,000 (Rs. 76 million)

Players of the Platinum category can be offered a staggering $250,000 as the maximum price. The Diamond and Gold categories come close to each other, with the maximum price of the players being $100,000 and $70,000 respectively. The remaining categories all with different prices are the Silver, Emerging, and Supplementary.

2 emerging players can be bought by each team for a total of $25,000 with prices of $12,000 and $13,000 respectively

Something which has changed the PSL 2019 Draft this year is the fact that the PCB has altered the rules, to make the competition more interesting. Each team is allowed to retain only 10 players from their previous season, releasing the remaining players, leaving them available to be drafted by another franchise in 2019.

On 13th November, every team had to tell the PCB which of their players they had decided to retain with every team other than the Quetta Gladiators, retaining 10 players each while the former retained 9. As each team is allowed a maximum of 16 players, every team will now decide who they want to pick in the PSL 2019 Draft.
